Protesters Against French Burqa Ban Arrested

The French restriction against Muslim females wearing burqas has just taken impact. Though some believe it is a step in the right direction as it is only worn by the most conservative of Muslims, some think it is a gross infringement on the civil liberties of Muslims living in France. The law is being protested by individuals who are not convinced the law is good. Article resource - Protests over burqa ban in France lead to arrests by Newsytype.com.

Even though the Notre Dame protest was small, two arrests were made

On the morning of April 11, a ban went into effect across the nation of France. The BBC states that many in France are mad about the burqa restriction that has civil liberty violations in it. The burqas are a black garment that covers an individual from head to toe entirely. In the fall, France approved the ban on these burqas. The morning the measure became an enforced law, a small number of individuals gathered outside the Notre Dame cathedral to protest the law. Two females were arrested at the protest. Both were wearing burqas. They'll also face a fine for wearing the burqa. The Telegraph states that five men were detained also.

Individuals get mad at Burqa restriction

The burqa and niqab are both banned. This means women, if caught wearing one, could have to either take a citizenship mandatory course or a 150 euro fine. The Christian Science Monitor reports that men who force women to wear burqas or niqabs have a bigger penalty. Fines of 30,000 to 60,000 and prison could be given to man forcing females to wear these garments. The ban is not something all French citizens feel the same about. Some say the ban is a travesty and a terrible offense against civil liberties. Islamic dress is not named in the ban exactly. All it states is that covering the face is banned. This discriminated against Muslims. This is the opinion some people have.

It all comes back

French law enforcement officials are vague about how well the law can be enforced, except perhaps for when practical. Western nations have some issues with Islam though. Belgium banned burqas and niqabs already. Also, the minarets, essential to mosques, were banned in Switzerland. The burqas haven't been banned exactly although there are needs the face must not be covered unless it is for safety reasons. Women are required to wear head coverings in some nations.
