
Times Square Bomber Shahzad Assigned Life In Prison
Times Square bomber Shahzad has earned himself life in jail. He did not try and make a deal with prosecutors. He pled guilty to the crime. His sentence is without the possibility of parole. Shahzad attempted to set off a crude explosive in Times Square. There was a Times Square evacuation when authorities were alerted to the car the gadget was in. Street vendors alerted police. The gadget was not made properly. Shahzad was arrested soon after. Shahzad is affiliated with a Taliban group based upon in Pakistan.
Times Square bomber receives life conviction
In Times Square, an SUV with explosives in it was found. Faisal Shahzad was responsible for this. The auto bomb in Times Square never went off. He was arrested right after. In June, he pleaded guilty. This is what CNN reports. He ended up being found guilty for 10 crimes. He had to have some type of punishment. He would never have the possibility of parole after the judge sentenced him to life in prison. The Times Square bomber, as he has been dubbed, was defiant in the face of incarceration for the rest of his life. He said The United States would die. He also said this defeat would happen in the near future. America would be taken off their land because of adherents of Islam, based on him.
Shahzad has correspondence with Pakistan Taliban
Shahzad was in regular communication with a Taliban group in Pakistan. Reuters explains that his bomb operation got funds from Tehrik-e-Taliban which is a jihadist group. He has a family. This family was moved from Connecticut to Pakistan for him. If Shahzad had been successful in his attack, he was planning on doing another one. He prepared on killing over 40 people. Just a couple weeks following the first, his second plot would have been done. After his New York terror plot failed, he attempted to flee to Dubai, however was caught at LuGuardia airport.
Prosecution asked for life
A life conviction was what the prosecution requested. The prosecution felt that life in prison would maybe deter anybody else from thinking about comparable acts.
