The Good, the Bad and the Ugly--and the Funny, Stupid, and Sad   by Gene Lalor

Most of today's news falls into the bad, ugly, and stupid categories but, fortunately, there are a few good and funny stories out there to soothe the psyche and delight the soul.

THE GOOD: With the official figure of nationwide unemployment at 10.2%-a far cry from Obama's promised max of 8% and probably really closer to 16%-one source reports that there are tons of decent-paying jobs available, if you're qualified.

The keyword there is "qualified."

They're hiring in the energy, technology, and health care sectors with one caveat: You must be qualified and preferably have some experience: http://bit.ly/CHdqT.

That may not be a "Good" news item for the mass of Americans even if it does show there is some hope, even if it doesn't soothe and delight.

Good news is hard to come by.

THE BAD: Some 35 states, including Illinois, have laws on their books requiring parental notification when teenagers are seeking to abort their babies. However, Illinois has failed to ever enforce its 14 year old law.

An Illinois state board voted to finally enforce it but, within hours, a judge issued a temporary restraining order after agitation by, who else, the American Civil Liberties Union : http://bit.ly/aEh6C.

So, for now, kids can continue to kill their pre-borns in the Prairie State since kids are so well-qualified to handle such monumental decisions on their own.

At least that's the view of the ACLU and liberal judges who continue to legislate from the bench.

THE UGLY: The grotesque visage of racism is the stock-in-trade of many Blacks in America and is SOP for AOL's "Black Voices." The latter is now charging racism, "blacklisting," as the cause of the Pelosi-created Office of Congressional Ethics' "all out investigations" of 7 congresspeople-of-color.

The nouns "ethics" and "congress" rarely appear in the same sentence but Black Voices claims that legislators such as Maxine Waters, Charles Rangel, Bennie Thompson, et al. are being targeted not for any ethical/criminal lapses nor the content of their character but simply due to the color of their skin.

Another possibility offered for the unfairness of it all is that all 7 supported the "Fairness in Cocaine Sentencing Act" and repeal of mandatory minimum sentencing: http://bit.ly/1wNVEm.

The third possibility is that they're all guilty as charged.

THE FUNNY: I've never seen ventriloquist, Jeff Dunham, perform but from what I hear, he's a riot with his dummies although PC aficionados allege his make-believe friends are based on racial and cultural stereotypes.

José, the Jalepeño Pepper, Sweet Daddy Dee, the Jive-Talking Pimp, Bubba J, and the Beer-Guzzling Redneck cover a broad spectrum of American characters so Dunham seems as much an equal-opportunity basher as everything on South Park.

Dunham's premiere show on Comedy Central was off the ratings charts which strongly suggests that television-viewers appreciate his brand of humor in spite of the culturally- or racially-sensitive populace: http://bit.ly/38GBd0

At least Perez, the Gumptionless Gay Guy, isn't a puppet in Dunham's repertoire, which should salve the sensibilities of that segment of our PC culture.

THE STUPID: Okay, this last category also encompasses the Bad and Ugly, and the Very Sad, as well as Stupid.

Obama seemed to regain a semblance of perspective following his initial laid-back reaction to the massacre at Fort Hood but even that semblance was tainted.

As NBC's Chicago affiliate reported, the president "didn't wait long after Tuesday's devastating elections to give critics another reason to question his leadership," by his almost flippant reaction to the Texas murders in which "viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president."

Instead of dispensing with the scheduled order of business for the day in deference to the horror that had occurred hours earlier at Hood, Obama treated it as an afterthought.

In what NBC called "frightening insensitivity," he began with inappropriate "banter" and a "shout-out" for an Indian hero before Rahm Emanuel must have tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "Say something about the dead soldiers, dammit!"

He then offered a few dispassionate words and little sympathy or empathy for the families of the slain and wounded and their families: http://bit.ly/XnsTA.

If it's not scripted and absent his trusted teleprompter, when this president has to wing-it, he's remarkably and scarily inept especially when his deep concern is called for when our troops are attacked by a domestic Muslim terrorist.

By the next day, Obama was sufficiently prepped to warn Americans, "I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts:" http://bit.ly/1oYUJF

Muslim U.S. Army shrink Major Nidal Malik Hasan's unprovoked, murderous assault resulted in 13 dead soldiers and wounded 31 others as he screamed the same, last words spoken by Muhammed Atta before he slammed American Airlines Flight 11 into the World Trade tower, "Allahu Akbar!"

That should in no way be interpreted as domestic, Islamic terrorism.

When do we draw a line in our war against Islamic terrorism, Mr. Obama, or is there such a war?
