Cartoon Car Crash Picture: Interesting Information

You can judge the developments in a country by remarkable events. In the Netherlands a current incident sheds some light on the progress of cultural integration of many ethnic groups.

Julian Deathblow is often a pseudonym (of a pseudonym) of a cartoon-artist that has been jailed for 30 hours on publishing discriminating cartoon on his blog. I and lots of other people had never heard about him, but his arrest created him world famous.

Many views on this topic have been broadcasted, some blame government (the minister of justice) to have the man locked-up and assume that freedom of expression is sacred, other people agree that freedom of expression cannot derail some simple values as respect for other cultures. In this case most cartoons are offending the islam religion, but do not forget the cartoon where Dutch society is at stake; a single where the prime minister and the queen are shown, would right away be removed if the country was Spain and not The Netherlands. The Dutch society has been well-known for its "tolerance."

To totally appreciate this collection of short stories, a single must, I think, be familiar using the author Alexei Sayle's stand-up or television sketch comedy work. His prose rather significantly mirrors his angry, ranting, incredulous Liverpudlian persona. Not that I prefer to put off the uninitiated, due to the fact I'm sure that they will be able to obtain a lot of enjoyment within these stories. But the punch-lines and expletives are far a lot more effective when shouted in the voice of an overweight Scouser.

In an interview on youtube, the artist replies that "I make people laugh. " How this matches the cartoon from the minister plus the queen is nonetheless a riddle to me.

The collection gets off to an inauspicious begin with two stories that read like they had been written with only their punch-lines in mind. In fact, the last two lines of 'My Life's Work' are actually trouser-soilingly funny.

When searching at his web site I observed a single from the initial contributions (dated from September 2006) devoted to the Danish cartoonist. His cartoon shows a piece of Lego where the last O is transformed into a bomb ... The association is obvious. In my opinion his motive ought to come from the cartoon affair that took place in Denmark inside the year before (September 2005). And his message have to be: provocation is what artists do, In case you (referring to a muslim) don't like it don't watch it.

The cracking 'Back in Ten Minutes' delivers a notable improvement. Filled with insights into call centers, provincial England, middle-aged masturbatory habits, and ice acrobatics; it also contains a thing that was missing from the very first two stories, a well-drawn and recognizable character.

'The Minister For Death', in which a 72 year-old Liverpudlian discovers the joys of killing and becomes a hit-man for the Chechen Mafia, is ridiculous and funny and continuously surprising; it mixes social and political comment with outlandish humor.

A hypochondriac ne'er-do-well becomes a prosperous journalist by writing about a serious medical condition that he doesn't have in 'You're Only Middle Aged Once'. A satirically funny highlight.

'Nic and Tob' is one more punch-line in search of a story, but is followed by the exceptional 'Big-Headed Cartoon Animal'. Pete, a former left-wing radical, is persuaded to pay a visit to the USA by his other half, Pru, and his diminishing moral convictions. The story is hilariously absurd, however it also manages to paint a lovingly detailed picture of an aging leftie.
