Every success of Sahara has opened a rather bigger door for another. And the evidence for the same was explicitly visible when Sahara Group after the claimed possession of maximum readership for three of its Urdu publications, it finally commenced its very own Urdu news television channel. The publications of include a daily newspaper called 'Roznama Rashtriya Sahara', a weekly-magazine by the name of 'Aalami Sahara' and a monthly- tabloid, 'Bazm-e-sahara'. Surprisingly, the title given to this first privatized Urdu news channel but the Sahara Group is same as that of the weekly magazine, i.e. Aalami Sahara.
As per the words of Upendra Rai, Editor and News Director, Sahara News Network, India holds more than 90 million people who speak in Urdu and out of them 40 million are regular television viewers. Sahara group is all set to target those 40 million viewers in India via ‘Aalami Sahara’. He also mentioned that in the first year, target of the channel will be to make contact with 25 million houses. The inaugural ceremony of the channel took place in the presence of distinguished personalities from the Islamic world and eminent dignitaries of media that included Rashid Shaheen, Chairman of Urdu Press Club Abdul and Sirajuddin Qureshi, chairman of Indian Islamic Centre. The inauguration was kept afloat by Munnawar Rana’s poetry recital from his book ‘Muhajir-nama’ and stand-up comedian Raju Srivastava’s comic routine. Although sunrata roy sahara couldn’t make it for the channel launch, he delivered his message which was telecasted in the event. And this is not the first time that sahara group has become a pioneer in the news arena. Two decades ago, Sahara India became the first corporate house to get access to Urdu media. Then in October 2010, Rozanama went online and became the first complete Urdu newspaper and magazine to be available on Internet. And now Sahara group has launched the first private urdu news channel.
“Aalami Sahara will raise voice not only for provincial and national concerns but also regarding the global matters without failing in terms of evenhandedness and accuracy”, says a Sahara source. The Urdu weekly owns readership of are 5.25 million readers, where as there are 500,000 readers of Bazm-e-Sahara (Urdu monthly). Equipped with over 1600 V-Sats for News collection, 50 Bureaus and more than 1000 correspondents worldwide, News Network of Sahara Group owns an array of 36 regional news channels under the brand name ‘Sahara Samay’.
